Ilia & Flavio - a Romantic Destination Wedding in Syros
From a chance meeting in London, Ilia and Flavio’s story grew into an exciting romance. An unforgettable proposal beneath the Acropolis led to a Greek island wedding in Syros with elegance, emotion and a wonderful sense of celebration.
Their story began when they met while working at the same hotel in London. Between meetings and lunch breaks, a friendship gradually turned into a full-blown romance. They walked miles across London to meet halfway in a park, just to spend a little time together.
The proposal came during a summer holiday in Athens. Flavio had arranged what Ilia believed was a casual photoshoot to capture memories of their trip. Against the iconic backdrop of the Acropolis, as the city glowed in the evening light, he surprised her by kneeling on one knee and holding a small box with beautiful, sparkling engagement ring .
A Wedding in Ermoupoli, the Elegant Capital of Syros
For their destination wedding in Greece, Ilia and Flavio chose Syros, a Cycladic island acclaimed for its neoclassical architecture and cosmopolitan character. Cobblestone streets, a majestic town hall, marble-carved squares and the bustle of the charming cafés are just a few traits of the island’s character. Family and friends travelled from different corners of the world to Ermoupoli, the island’s beautiful capital, for the couple’s long-awaited destination wedding.
The ceremony took place at the magnificent Town Hall of Ermoupoli, one of the city’s most impressive architectural landmarks, designed by Ernest Ziller.
Ilia brought a touch of Old Hollywood glamour to her bridal appearance, while Flavio complemented her style in an elegant white double-breasted jacket. Together, they made a striking couple against the grand neoclassical surroundings.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds wandered through the picturesque streets of Syros, as Yiannis Sotiropoulos clicked away, capturing unforgettable photographic moments. The island’s colorful facades and marble stairways added elegance to their nonchalant romantic moments.
A Seaside Wedding Reception at Ciel Syros
The celebrations continued at Ciel, a posh seaside venue with the relaxed atmosphere of the Greek islands. The mood at this stylish reception venue quickly changed from a composed, elegant atmosphere to a high-energy wedding party. It was marvelous to see friends and guests on the dance floor, enjoying themselves and dancing to the nonstop music beat. DJ Giorgos Roussos kept everyone on the dance floor until the early hours of the morning.
The entire wedding, from the anticipation of getting ready to the ceremony, the romantic portraits and the spirited reception, was captured by Yiannis Sotiropoulos Photography. His imagery documented the couple’s connection, the excitement of their guests and the charming character of Syros. Wedding Planning with a Personal Touch
Behind the beautiful celebration was wedding planner Christie Lagiou. With creativity, a calm approach and elegant minimalist aesthetic she created an atmosphere that reflected precisely what the couplewanted.
An arch with white roses and hydrangeas at the ceremony for the exchange of vows and the white rose compositions further accented the classical setting of the ceremony. Candles with small rose filled vases were placed on the reception tables adding sophisticated subtlety and refinement. As Ilia shared, Christie was by their side throughout the planning process, offering guidance, flexibility and smart ideas at every phase.
The couple brought together loved ones from around the world and planned a wedding that had all the expected elements of a destination wedding in Greece. It fused the elegance of Ermoupoli, the natural beauty of the Aegean Sea, and the warmth of a truly personal celebration.
